You're Lucky We Care This Much
How I Quit My Last Job

So now that some time has passed I’ll tell you about what happened at my former job and the reason why I quit.

In the weeks before Christmas I was pushing for more work to up my hours. Before that, I was working 1 day a week for about 2 hours. I didn’t like it but I only dealt with it under the pretense that I would be getting more work over time but it never came of course. The owner cited that I wasn’t retaining the information about the job and that was his reason for not giving me more hours. (yet he didn’t fire me) This reason I believe to be total BS because I was taking out the garbage one day and had asked him the question on where the garbage bags were. He got frustrated with me over that even though one of the claims he had about me about my job was that I didn’t ask him enough questions. Well it looks like he was fucking lying about that wasn’t he?

So what made me quit? Well the reason above was mainly the problem, however I had decided that I’d continue working there as long as I could until I could find a better job because hey I’d rather be making chump change than nothing. There was a series of events though that had lead me to quit completely. Note that there’s quite a bit to talk about so I’ll try to keep it short.

So first off, around the time I was told I was not going to get more hours I got sick with a cold (I can’t be anywhere near food with a cold) and called up the owner. I left a full message with my number (just in case he forgot it) and said in the message to call me later on when he would need me as I didn’t have a set schedule on when to work. He never called, which was expected as he never called me once when I started working there in the first place. He then calls me a week later asking me why I didn’t come in to work the week after I called yet acknowledged THE CALL LAST WEEK WHERE I SPECIFICALLY SAID FOR HIM TO CALL ME BACK LATER. On it’s own that incident is nothing, I understand that sometimes people can go stupid and forget stuff like that but he started hounding me about this like I was at fault for not coming in to work. At this point I clearly got the message, he didn’t want me there and was looking for any reason to get rid of me no matter how illegitimate it seemed. The garbage bag incident above happened after this but I knew my time at the job was limited either I was going to quit or get fired before I could find another job.

Sometime after the garbage bag incident I went to work feeling really shitty about the job but I was still withholding my feelings and held out on quitting or just not showing up that day. Bad idea, that day was the day that health inspectors were coming and the owner being a person that doesn’t care about the state of his own store (insert comment about how he should have brought me more than 2 hours a week to clean so he wouldn’t have to worry) was clearly going to be on edge that day. He first explained to me about the order he wanted me to clean things first the outside of the store then the inside. I started to clean the outside but then thought to myself “hey wouldn’t it be a better idea to start inside THEN work out?” of course the owner comes to complain to me that I should be cleaning inside first then remarking to me that I should “think for myself” okay whatever. I get done mopping up the store then the owner wants me to vacuum the carpets, not a big deal but the owner says to me in a patronizing tone:

“You need to get the vacuum. You do know how to use a vacuum, right?”

Okay at this point he’s just insulting me. While some people may think this isn’t a big deal keep in mind he not paying me enough to deal with any insults.

I debated a bit on walking out of the job but decided against it. I was already more than halfway done cleaning the store (and the rest of the building and parking lot) and felt that walking out would have been a bit too much. I continued working, but I was fully convinced that I wasn’t working another day after this.

The Health Inspectors came and told the owner that he really improved the store since the last time they came. I guess I can take credit for that, since it was pretty much me cleaning and mopping the entire store, front windows of the other stores he owned including the restaurant, the front tables, taking out the garbage, cleaning the front of all the stores of the building and the parking lot within the span of about 2 hours.

After that day the owner told me to come to the building later in the week to see if there was any work for me to do (if that sounds weird that is because it is) I decided on that day I’d give my two weeks notice after much convincing by people that I shouldn’t just outright stop working. On that day he had me set up a few things for the store but he clearly didn’t want me to work that day. The following conversation where I quit went like this:

After helping the owner clear up trash that was thrown around by some people haphazardly the owner says to me “See these kids they don’t care where they throw their trash, you would never do that right?”
Me “nope”
Owner “Ok then I’ll see you later on Thursday!”
Me “I’d like to tell you I’m giving my two weeks notice”
Owner “Oh you’ve found a new job then? (I had already discussed well beforehand that I intended to look for another job elsewhere and he allowed me to use him as a reference.)
Me “…nope” (I guess it’s rather clear now how I feel about the job)

I go on about some bullshit about how I’m sorry I’m quitting (note I’m not) but sorta agree to work on Thursday and the owner will call me whenever he needs me.

Thursday comes and I feel sick I try to call the owner but I realize that my phone is out due to lack of payment. (makes sense as I barely got paid anything at my job) I then debate on just showing up to work sick or calling up on a payphone. I only have enough money for a bus card for work or to call up work. I decide to do something better with my money and buy a 2 liter soda instead.

Life post

(copy and pasted from a friends only post on my G+ account)

Here’s another life post for all you stalkers interested in my life.

I believe I’ve already said this but my work has not been giving me enough hours and refuses to give me more hours.

The reason? My boss says I’m not “retaining information” about the job. So why did my boss say this? I believe it was because I had kept asking about where they keep the garbage bags when I was cleaning out the garbage. My boss had told the chefs where I work to help find me a bag but they fucked with me and gave me a small plastic bag instead of a garbage bag. I then had to ask my boss again for a garbage bag.

I should also add that I’m actually working with a company that helps me find jobs and can work with me on the job to help keep that job. My boss didn’t want them working on the job and then he turns around and says I’m not “retaining information” when I got people THAT CAN HELP ME WITH THAT EXACT PROBLEM.

In short, I’m being fucked over by this job and worse I was promised more hours and work and I’m not getting it.

That’s just half of the story though, last week I had called in sick and left a message saying to call me back when my boss wants me to work. (note I’m still working there until I get another job) I didn’t receive ANY call back. I tried to call last sunday but nobody answered and I wasn’t able to leave a message. THIS TUESDAY I get a call from my boss saying I was supposed to be at work THIS MONDAY. I complained back and said I never received any call back telling my when to come in. (and he did hear my message last Monday when I was sick.)

Whatever, doesn’t really matter anyway since I don’t really want to work there anymore. My boss can’t fuck with me because I really don’t even give a shit.

There is good news though. I’ve possibly got a new job interview lined up. While I’ve been working my current crappy job I’ve been doing temporary work at the same place my mother works at and they definitely like what I’ve done the short time I’ve been there and would be interested in hiring me.

So despite all the bullshit that has happened maybe things will work out.

A Short Article On How Charabot Works

Again same as before this will be a quickly written article, so don’t expect anything really in depth here. Also, because of the language barrier there are some features of charabot that I do not understand. I will try to explain things however.

The examples I will be showing will be from the - http://twitter.com/MAID001 - bot account so you can see and understand what charabot does.

Ok so let’s begin. Log onto the server your bot is hosted on.

(note I will be quoting from English translated pages so expect some Engrish. I will not correct the text either.)

1: “Configuration about nomal post” (sic)

Photobucket

This section of charabot deals with normal twitter messages made by the bot

“Tag List” - Here’s a list of tags usable in this section

#date# and #time# of course posts the current date and time in the post in which it is used is made. However it outputs Japanese text, so there’s no point in using these tags if you’re making a bot that tweets in english.

#stop# I’m actually unsure of what this tag does but from what I understand (and guess) it prevents a message from being posted if it was just used.

#week_x# this combined with a message will make the message posted ONLY on the day you enter in randomly. Example: messages tagged with #week_1# will only be posted to twitter on Sunday.

#hour_x# like the week tag will post the message which it is used in on the time you enter in. Example: messages tagged with #hour_0# Will only be posted at 12:00am

#week_x_hour_x# Tag allows you to post a message at a certain day and certain time. Example: messages tagged with #week_1_hour_0# will be posted only on Sunday at 12:00am

Interval(min.) about normal post” - This deals with how often a random message (meaning a message that is NOT directed to post at a certain time or day) will be posted.

Use sleep function (deactivate nomal (sic) post at AM2:00-AM6:00):” Deactivates random messages from being posted at 2:00am to 6:00am. (Note I am unsure if this affects messages tagged to post at those times.)

List about normal post” (sic) - Here you enter the messages you want your bot to use of course.

“Save” - Saves the text you’ve entered in of course.

2: “List About Reply For Me” (sic)

Photobucket

This section of charabot deals with @ “at” replies directed towards a bot.

Note that I don’t know much about this section and I’m probably using the keywords very inefficiently.

1) Anyway, you must enter in a keyword AT THE BOTTOM TEXT BOX NEXT TO THE “ADD” BUTTON, like in maid001’s case “tea”.

2) Then, you must click the “add” button for the keyword to appear on the list.

3) Then, you must click the “Save” button in order to edit the message for the keyword. (you cannot skip this)

4) Then, you can click the “Post Content” button next to the keyword and enter in a message that you want your bot to respond with whenever it sees that particular keyword. For example, saying “tea” or making any reply with “tea” in your message towards maid001 will cause maid to respond with “I shall serve you tea”.

There’s a number of other options and keyword tricks you can do with this but unfortunately the language barrier prevents me from understanding how they work. So please forgive me if I do not mention them.

3: “List About My Timeline” (sic)

 Photobucket

This section of Charabot deals with messages seen on the bot’s twitter timeline.

Note that in order for the bot to read messages on their timeline they must be following twitter accounts. Which means this section is useless if the bot is not following anyone, keep that in mind.

This section works the same way as the one above, except that replies not directed towards the bot will be read by the bot. For example the keyword “hungry”, if I make a tweet that says

“Man I’m hungry”

maid001 will respond with “I shall make you something to eat” even though I did not direct the message towards maid001.

4: “List about welcome message for a new follower” (sic)

 Photobucket

This section deals of Charabot deals will messages the bot tweets when receiving a a new follower.

Not much to say about this section, it works the same way as the first section so you can have a unique message on certain days of the week or times.

Note that the message is directed towards the follower and that Charabot does not follow accounts automatically. You will have to use another twitter application for that or follow back the person manually.

That’s all I have to say about Charabot right now. I’m sure there’s stuff I missed but I’ll probably cover that on a different day.

This is a blog compaining about what people say about what other people say

A number of people who I follow on twitter seem to always complain about the tweets they see from the people they follow. Personally I am tired of this childish whining and now I am going to rant about it and give some advice on why you shouldn’t complain.

1: These are people you’ve willingly followed

When you clicked that follow button you pretty much agreed to allow that person’s tweets to fill your timeline. You can just as easily unfollow that person if their tweets annoy you.

Hey you don’t like seeing people tweet about sports? Unfollow them.

You don’t like seeing people tweet about mundane daily activities? Unfollow them.

You don’t like tweets about goats? Unfollow them.

The unfollow feature a pretty amazing invention right?

2: You’re not a good online friend

So let’s say one of your real life friends came up to you and said “Hey I hate when you talk about [X] it annoys the shit out of me and it’s dumb.” would you still be friends with this person? No you wouldn’t. This kind of complaining isn’t acceptable online nor offline.

So here’s a tip: Unless you want to be a douche to people don’t complain about what people talk about.

3: It alienates people

Here’s a personal experience: I liked reading this one blogger’s tweets on twitter until he made a blog post complaining about one twitter account tweets.

I will never read this person’s blog ever again.

Why? Because why should I care about what a blogger has to say when they can’t even respect what people want to say on their own twitter accounts?

As for me…

I’m going to unfollow people who complain about tweets from now on. I’m getting tired of these douches who do nothing but complain constantly.

A short tutorial on how to make a bot on twitter using charabot.

I’m not going to get into detail about this, this is going to just be a short article. A more in depth article will come when I can get around to writing it.

1: What you need before you start

-You obviously need a twitter account first. Go sign up for one if you haven’t yet.

-You also need a Google account too, in order to sign up for a bot as well. Please go do that if you haven’t done that already.

-DISABLE YOUR POPUP BLOCKERS IF ANY ARE ON. you can turn them back on when done registering. You just need your popup blockers off in order to register.

-and patience.

2: Choosing a server

-Go here first - http://charactorbot.appspot.com/ - and read up on how the bot works.

-Then choose a OPEN server from this list - http://sourceforge.jp/projects/charactorbot/wiki/Servers - Open servers are listed at the top

-You can tell if a server is open if text “Number of remaining bot: ” lists a number higher than 0. Which of course means there is room on the server for your bot.

3: Signing up

-After choosing an open server click the “Login” link at the top right hand corner.

-You will then be prompted to login with your google account, do this now.

-You will then be directed to register a new application here - http://twitter.com/oauth_clients - the setting as directed by the charabot site should be this:

Application Type: Client
Default Access type: Read & Write
Use Twitter for login: Yes, use Twitter for login

Put in the correct settings and fill out whatever else needs to be filled out and then finish the application registration process.

-back at the charactorbot site you will now need to enter in the  “consumer key and consumer secret” codes that twitter gave you when completing the application registration. Enter them in and click “authenticate” (you should receive a popup here hopefully you’ve disabled your popup blocker)

Note that after this point you may receive errors when creating your bot. Just enter in the required information quickly to get around this.

-Click “allow” and you will receive a pin copy this pin

-Back on the charabot site enter in the pin and click “create”

-You will now be given a prompt where you can fill out your bot name and set your bot’s time zone (ignore the other information). Time zone affects when your bot posts it’s messages so keep that in mind.

Note if you encounter an error and you can’t create a bot click “authenticate” again and enter in the new pin you receive and all the information required.  Keep doing this until the bot is created.

4: The bot is created

You’ll know when the bot is created when you see blank forms you can fill out.

After this point you can go check out the documents and faq (all in japanese so use a translation service) to figure out the various features.

So that it. I’m sorry I couldn’t go more in depth with this article and add pictures and more detail. There’s just a lot of stuff to cover and I’ll have to come back to this and write more about it on a later date.
